The Swabian Alb is a cultivated landscape, if it won’t be cared for anymore it would turn into a forest within years or decades. On the former military training ground of Münsingen they use sheep to avoid that the open landscape turns into a forest. 16 shepards pasture their flock in this area. One of them is Melanie Dangel who took over her fathers two flocks of altogether more than 1000 sheep. The price for wool is so low, it just covers the cost of the sheep shearing. Selling lamb alone would not be enough either. Todays shepards and their sheep have become service providers who are paid to keep the landscape open. | ||
